Countdown to Christmas…

How is it that Christmas is almost here already? How did it happen so fast? How did we not realise? Where has the year gone? WTF? We cannot believe that is is almost that time of the year already!

And because we know so many of you are still looking for those last-minute gifts, or that something special for that someone special, we have decided to see what we can to help you at the last-minute this festive season.

Order online, or pop into our store, and we will gift wrap those orders beautifully for you. Last date for orders in time for Christmas by post is Sunday 17th December, and last date for orders via courier is Wednesday 21 December.

We are staying open (in store and online) right up until Saturday 24th December, and we have also decided to stay open this Friday 16th December for the Day of Reconciliation.

We are also offering you something a little different this Christmas where for any orders which include one of our Christmas stockings, we will cover the cost of your shipping. Just make sure your order contains at least 1 Prickly Pears Christmas Stocking and that you use the discount code “ChristmasStockingFreeShipping” when checking out, and consider your order gift-wrapped and delivered to your door. Feel free to order as much as you like, as long as your order includes at least 1 Christmas stocking.

Spring is in the air…

Spring has sprung and the August sale (and hopefully winter) has blown away, and we’re already getting excited for summer! Not as much as little Grace here showing off her cute little face and her Pretty Proteas nappy cover.

Thanks so everyone who supported us, and took advantage of our August Blows sale, it has been a (whirl)wind of a month for us. We are now off on a 2 week break so we have decided to extend the sale in-store for the next two weeks, so you can still take advantage just in case you missed it!

But before we head off, we would like to share some of the wonderful media love we have received over the past month.

Visi magazine celebrated the Brazilian Olympics with a Carnival of Colour including our Pink Flamingo Cushion Cover.

Your Family magazine shared our Delft placemats as part of their 5 Best Delft Blue Buys.

And in shop news this month, we had a very exciting feature recently in the Sunday Times Property News.

In the shop, not only have we introduced lots of new Handmade By Me products lately, but we have also introduced our latest collaborative product with Windowsill, pressed plants. Even though we only have a few in stock at the moment we are very excited about all the different green and leafy possibilities that can be placed between 2 pieces of soldered glass.

And do come and see our brand new Alex Snell prints which were created specially for our little shop – titled Gothic Africa, and inspired by our little part of the world. These prints are part of a signed limited edition and are available exclusively from us either framed in soldered glass or unframed.

And last but not least, watch out Joburg, we are coming for you! We are VERY excited to be exhibiting at the Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair at Hyde Park shopping centre in October. Watch this space for more details or take a look at their website.

now available from…Quirky Country Gallery (Greyton)

I happened to be in the beautiful town of Greyton last weekend (wow I had forgotten just how much I absolutely love that place), and popped in to see one of my latest stockists Quirky Country who have literally just opened! I had no idea what to expect, and to my wonderful surprise, I just fell in love with this beautiful little modern art gallery nestled in the heart of the town. The artwork on display is an affordable treat to the senses, with some seriously desirable illustrations and paintings, some interesting multi-medium artworks, and even a few creatively interactive pieces, all made by local(ish) artists from all around the Cape, including Greyton. There was so much I wanted to get my hands on right then and there, but my husband and I finally settled on a great little print by David Kuijers, a local artist in Greyton. When in Rome I guess… : ) Anyways read on further for a little more information about the gallery itself…and checkout their facebook page for everything else, including more photos of the beautiful products you can expect to find there.

This is what Renzske Scholtz, one of the owners of the gallery had to say about her dream becoming a reality: “We moved to Greyton 2 years ago in order to give our 5 year old twin boys a better, healthier outdoorsy life style. I was working at SMAC Gallery in Stellenbosch and had just finished my masters degree at UCT in Fine Art. My dream has always been to curate and direct my own little gallery, showcasing interesting ‘affordable’ art as well as stocking beautiful handmade products, so it was just a matter of waiting for the right space. I Love all things Quirky! About a month ago I found it and Quirky Country Gallery was born. Our opening exhibition showcases a mix of Greyton, Overberg and Cape Town artists including David Kuijers, Caroline Gibello, Alastair Barnes, Nicolene Swanepoel, Richard Smith and Carl Becker. Then we stock selected handmade products like Handmade By Me, Keiskamma embroidered botanical bags and cushion covers, Inge Marais Jewellery and a few other things.”

You can find them at 49 Ds Botha street, Greyton.

hearty hearting for south africa’s online design shops

So it seems beautiful south african design inspired online shops are popping up all over the place at the moment which is such a wonderfully international thing to see. Another little gem called We Heart This has just been launched and focuses on the handmade side of South African design. They are stocking an array of handmade by me products : ) which is fantastic and have quite a lovely selection of different items including some beautiful body products by Wild Olive which I am absolutely in love with. Have a look and see for yourself…I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
