a flamboyance of flamingoes…

Today we have a whole flamboyance of flamingo inspired things to show you! While the northern hemisphere is slowly starting to thaw out, and we’re just getting to enjoy the best part of our summer, the whole world is going crazy for these crazy beautiful birds!

We are especially excited about this really beautiful tropical inspired wedding decor shoot that Wedding Album magazine did recently using our Pink Flamingo napkins. How beautiful is this wedding spread? Makes me want to go back and do mine all over again : )

This young lady in Australia had her surfboard customised using our Pink Flamingo linen cotton fabric. How cool did this turn out? Makes me want to go surfing immediately!! Thanks so much to her for sharing these pics with us!

We spotted some flamingo trend forecast inspiration going on on instagram…we may be a little biased, but we’re super excited that they chose to use our design : )

And while we are at it…here are some of our favourite Etsy treasuries featuring all kinds of flamingo inspired beauties. If these don’t get you excited about flamingoes, I’m afraid nothing will!

KIN Kloof - overview

KIN showcases a quirky and colourful offering of designer jewellery, décor, ceramics, art-prints and stationery. Passionately advocating keeping craftsmanship in South Africa, the collection focuses exclusively on local art and design – highlighting the country’s unique creative edge. Every piece is conceptualised and made in SA, with the aim of utilising and supporting local industries as well as contributing to a sustainable creative market.

Launching at the Spier Contemporary Exhibition at the Cape Town City Hall in 2010, KIN began as series of pop-up shops which aimed to create a bridge between South African design and art, and those who have fallen in love with it. The attention of both customers and potential designers was caught, and KIN’s carefully-curated offering has grown to include two physical stores  (one in bustling Kloof Street and one at the V&A Waterfront) as well as an online store. The stores offer a feast of contemporary design, and are supported and celebrated by locals and internationals alike (KIN was recently featured in The Lonely Planet’s Top Choice in Shopping in Cape Town).

What KIN offers goes beyond the material in connecting local artists to a public which is growing more conscious of the importance of where something comes from and why it was made.

The Shoestring Collective Pop-Up Shop

Some of you may not have heard by now that myself and my friend Leila Badsha, of Bow Peep, are opening up a pop-up shop called The Shoestring Collective in The Gardens Centre, Cape Town.

The shop is essentially stocked, paid for, and run by 16 top designers who have all curated their own spaces within the shop. We all make different products including fashion, accessories, homeware and many more. We may have no budget (hence the name), but we have alot of super awesome products to sell! Everything is local and handmade by us.

There will also be a collection of products from other local designers which has been specially curated by Leila and myself. And we even have locally made wrapping paper so we can gift wrap your purchases! Have a look below for our full line-up of available brands!

The shop will run for a month, and we open this Monday the 8th!!! Please spread the word and more importantly pop in and see us. You can also follow us and keep up to date on facebook and twitter!
