Firstly VERY IMPORTANT, we are HIRING!!! We are looking for someone energetic, passionate, honest, creative and optimistic to be our new Junior Assistant Extraordinaire! Someone who is interested in being a part of Handmade By Me and helping it grow. We have put together a job spec here, please have a look and share with anyone who you think might be interested http://www.bizcommunity.com/JobView/196/597/241290.html
And then I don’t think I have had a chance yet to share with you our new placemat designs! For anyone who is not afraid of a bit of colour, these guys are for you! They have all been matt laminated so you can use them over and over again, and are available in 3 different designs, and in sets of 4 of the same design. They are available to buy online from the Handmade By Me online shop, or from various stockists. Certainly one way to cheer up those winter table blues : )
I am so delighted to let you know that 2 of my lovely wallpapers have been featured in a beautiful and aptly titled “Wall flowers” feature in the latest issue of Garden & Home. Both the Spring Has Sprung, Peach Floral wallpaper and the Birdy Num Num in Purple Blue wallpaper have been listed amongst the “made to measure” section. If you’re in the mood for romance this season nothing says commitment quite like wallpaper : )
But for those of you looking for something a little less permanent I have found a new supplier as an alternative, who offer fully removeable self adhesive wallpaper which is uses PVC-free paper, and is durable and eco-friendly.
And finally the day is almost here when one of my favourite online stockists Hello Pretty officially launches their shop to the public with a lovely designer market consisting of all the lovely products they stock. Now you can see everything you’ve been drooling over the past few months for real! And meet the people who make them! I myself already have a few items I have been eyeing out for a while now and can’t wait to see what the day has to offer. Its on at the lovely Woodstock Foundry and apparently there’s free candyfloss!! What more could a girl on a public holiday ask for : )
And a few of us lucky Hello Pretty designers found some of our products featured in Fair Lady‘s Fabulous Gift Guide. Here’s my Pink Flamingo! cushion cover…available from…..Hello Pretty : )
One of our lovely Durban stockist’s Mooi sent me these photos of the Handmade By Me goodies on display in their shop. How gorgeous do the aprons look on those mannequins? Durban peeps best you pop over to Mooi soon and have a look for yourself.
I have been so excited about these for so long as I had to wait untill I had touched down in SA before I could start developing them properly. The vintage ones in particular were something I have always wanted to do and I am super excited about the way they have all turned out! Now the plan is to shoot these all professionally so please excuse the way I have styled the pics for now but I just can’t wait that long to show you…
I have 2 different styles. The 50’s vintage inspired ones which are honestly so beautiful! They are made from a soft 100% cotton (same as my napkins) and there is alot of detailing and pleating and the finishing touches are just so pretty. They wrap generously around the waist with a full glamorous skirt with a matching pocket. You probably won’t want to get these dirty : ) The other style is a standard chef apron made from linen cotton canvas or a strong 100% cotton, these will brighten up any kitchen and are ideal for cooking and/or painting and/or anything and/or just looking pretty : )
All aprons can be made in all designs, vintage and chef styles, and the chef aprons can be made up in kiddies sizes if you want to have matching ones. Try the space rocket solar system or beep beep designs for these.

Some more exciting news from a slightly more wintery cape town today…handmade by me is now stocked by a beautiful online store called Hello Pretty. They are a marketplace for South African independent creatives and only stock high-end designs. They are so new in fact, that they are aiming on entering public beta mid-August, and will be having an official launch in November. They are also still actively recruiting and adding new sellers to the site, so the number of stores is growing every week. So far I am very impressed with the selection and have even spotted a few items I have my eye on for our new house : )
And while being in spirit of all things made in South Africa I thought I might post a little snap I took the other afternoon after hearing that Ireland has had yet another record breaking month of rain! Here’s a big giant incentive to come visit you guys : )
So next week is the big move! And as much as I am absolutely excited to get my little business going in sunny South Africa, there are lots of mixed emotions with leaving Ireland, my home for the last 6 years. Anyways with that in mind, I won’t be posting much over the next 2 weeks while we enjoy our last few days in Dublin, and start getting settled into life in Cape Town. I can’t wait to begin posting again because that means I will have started to get cracking on my next set of ideas and projects, and I won’t be able to wait to show you all. So while we get on and move, I’ll leave you with some pics of my new tea towel range, all ready and waiting to find themselves a new home : )
And don’t forget if you want to keep up to date with any news in the meantime you can go to http://www.facebook.com/handmadebymeblog and “like” handmade by me’s facebook page.
So I have been very busy sewing away and I realised that some of you have only seen the designs and not the finished products. Here are a few of the things I have been working on lately! Still can’t decide which is my new favourite…
Pretty Proteas looking oh so lovely as a cushion cover…
New blue origami birds cushion cover…
Red vintage squares cushion cover and matching set of napkins…
As some of you may know, I absolutely love beautiful old tea cups and saucer sets. I have a few beauties in my collection which I love, but sadly seem to be more on display than actually used! Ever since Vera Wang did a collection for Wedgewood I have been OBSESSED with her work. So badly that everytime I am in a department store I try and convince myself that one cup and saucer is more important than eating for the rest of the month : ) This is the first collection I saw and drooled over….
It is SO going to be on my wedding gift list! And it inspired me to start a tea cup and saucer design of my own which I think will make really cool tea towels and aprons.
Here are my cups o’ tea….
And here is the pattern design in the form of a tea towel which I will be introducing to my collection shortly…
