Introducing our new Feisty Floral Watercolour range…

If you follow us on facebooktwitter and/or instagram, you may have noticed a few photos of a new design popping up lately. I am VERY excited about the launch of our new Feisty Floral Watercolour design, available in two different colourways and in a whole array of different products. And at the same time, we are also introducing new cushion sizes and shapes in this design, as well as across all our other new range designs. We can now offer you cushion covers to fit a 40cm x 40cm, 50cm x 50cm, 60cm x 60cm and a rectangular shaped 40cm x 60cm cushion inner.

The Feisty Floral Watercolour design is particularly special to me as I had originally hand painted it and then printed it onto fabric using a silk textile screen a few years ago. I had actually hand painted and printed several versions of it onto various bits of fabric, which I was always going to one day make into pillow cases, tea towels and possibly napkins for myself. I had actually forgotten about the fabric sitting in one of my storage boxes from my Dublin days, and when I did a little clear out and found it, I decided I HAD to add it to my collection. I wanted to keep the hand-painted effect, but without actually having to hand paint it onto many many metres of fabric myself, so I decided to scan in the printed fabric at a very high resolution and then print it digitally back onto a base fabric. As you can see it has kept the grainy watercoloury texture beautifully, and with the help of photoshop I was able to create and offer an alternative colourway.

The beautiful thing about his fabric is that each item is cut from the fabric as we need, so every product will have a unique crop of the design on it, and no two pieces will be alike.

The funny thing is that when I showed the prints to my friend Alex from Windowsill, she immediately referenced the Bromeliad – a beautiful flower, which weirdly enough is the same species as the pineapple, and which I had no idea came in so many colour variations. So I looked them up and have a look at these…

It’s like I referenced them without even knowing they existed!! I am definitely going to have to get me some of these for my home now!

Introducing…The Gallery in Riebeek Kasteel

I am delighted to introduce to you a brand new stockist, and gorgeous little gallery, situated in the heart of Riebeek Kasteel, aptly called The Gallery.

Gallery

The Gallery is situated in the historically picturesque village of Riebeek Kasteel, located just 50 minutes from Cape Town off the N7. Curated by Astrid McLeod, The Gallery features a carefully selective mix of paintings, sculptures and ceramics by established and emerging artists. It represents a variety of local art from the Riebeek Valley and the Swartland, including artists Andre van Vuuren, Solly Smook and Clare Menck to name but a few.”

They also have an exciting new fundraiser going on at the moment, where artist Solly Smook has teamed up with Pink Lady to raise money for their fund…

We are off to Kamers at the castle this week along with our favourite (art, ceramics, textiles, furniture, antiques) design studio and shop Chandler House : )

For those of you who don’t already know, Kamers is a design, food, wine and live music pop-up retail event, essentially a big fancy market, which is usually hosted once a year in different parts of the country. But this year in conjunction with the CCDI and World Design Capital Cape Town 2014, they will be hosting their first pop-up at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town. What a sensational and seemingly appropriate venue!!! I can’t wait to see whats going on down there this weekend. You can find us and all sorts of Handmade By me products at the Chandler House space, which I am sure will be pretty spectacular! Pop in and say hi when are there!

Chandler House will not only be stocking Handmade By Me at Kamers, but you will also find some of our lovely things available to buy from their design studio and shop on 53 Church Street, Cape Town. Now seriously, if you haven’t had a chance to pop in and see Michael Chandler’s treasure trove of a space, Chandler House, already, you are indeed missing out! Amongst his own seriously beautiful works of art, my favourites being the Phrenology vases and VOC plates, which we also bought and used for our wedding (and now home), there are all kinds of other very talented designers and artists (mostly ceramicists) who’s beautiful works of art can be found displayed together alongside all kinds of bits and bobs that Michael has collected over the years including old paintings, furniture and antiques. The shop is filled with all kinds of nods towards Cape Heritage, and you will find it VERY hard to pop in, look around and leave empty handed!

Now just before you race down to Church street to take in this awesome hidden gem of a sight, Chandler House will be closed from the 3rd to the 10th of June as they move a few rooms around and give the shop a little bit of a revival. We will all be looking forward to the unveiling in July when they will also be hosting their first exhibition in the shop…very exciting!!!

You can find them at www.chandlerhouse.co.za and follow them on twitter: @MrChandlerHouse and facebook: www.facebook.com/chandlerhouse

And here are some lovely photos of the shop which I stole from their facebook page : )

Introducing my new and oh-so-fabulous aprons…

I have been so excited about these for so long as I had to wait untill I had touched down in SA before I could start developing them properly. The vintage ones in particular were something I have always wanted to do and I am super excited about the way they have all turned out! Now the plan is to shoot these all professionally so please excuse the way I have styled the pics for now but I just can’t wait that long to show you…

I have 2 different styles. The 50’s vintage inspired ones which are honestly so beautiful! They are made from a soft 100% cotton (same as my napkins) and there is alot of detailing and pleating and the finishing touches are just so pretty. They wrap generously around the waist with a full glamorous skirt with a matching pocket. You probably won’t want to get these dirty : ) The other style is a standard chef apron made from linen cotton canvas or a strong 100% cotton, these will brighten up any kitchen and are ideal for cooking and/or painting and/or anything and/or just looking pretty : )

All aprons can be made in all designs, vintage and chef styles, and the chef aprons can be made up in kiddies sizes if you want to have matching ones. Try the space rocket solar system or beep beep designs for these.
