Our PURSES make the best gifts…whether it is for a friend or for yourself, you can never have too many – and you can use them to carry just about anything…from keys to make-up to pens to cash to sunnies. So we have decided to do our bit to help you tighten those purse strings this winter with 20% off all purses all week! Just use the discount code PURSESTRINGS on checkout. Discount code ends Monday 13 June 2016. Only while stocks last.

In other news, our first lot of trays and pot stands (ideal for holding hot or warm pots or containers) are finally available to purchase directly from our shop. They are all heat resistant to 120C, and stain & scratch resistant. The trays are made using melamine and the pots stands are cork backed with a melamine surface.

And then I would like to introduce to you, Handmade by me’s latest online stockist, Petrichor Studio. Situated in the friendly city of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Petrichor Studio is all about creating sustainable spaces for clients – in the home, the office and the garden. They offer a complete consultation and design service for interiors and gardens, and they have a lovely little online shop that compliments that all nicely.

“Michelle Hatherly has many years of garden design experience primarily using indigenous plants, as well as several years practice as an interior designer. She is passionate about sustainable and eco-friendly design and employs the “reduce, re-use, recycle” principles in her inspiring design of spaces.

Petrichor Studio has also evolved with the collaboration of Michelle and her photographer/designer daughter, Sasha Hatherly. They have considered creating an online store for some years, which would showcase the talents of local South African designers and artists.

Now a reality, the Store will ultimately ‘stock’ a range of handmade furniture, lighting, cushion covers and other accessories which are useful, durable, but which will also beautifully decorate home, office and garden, and create sustainable spaces to live and work in. Many will be cleverly re-purposed items, as well as those produced from recycled materials. A select range of indigenous bulbs and seeds grown by Petrichor Studio, will also be available to purchase in the Store.”

recreate with handmade by me

Recreate is a cutting edge interior design range of repurposed furniture and lighting, started by Katie Thompson in 2009.

Using pieces of discarded junk, Katie recreates a unique, recycled range of furniture, lighting and interior accessories, each piece infused with its own previous character but with a new function. By blending South African craftsmanship, with high end finishes and her own eclectic perfectionist flair, Katie creates an original end product with a new integrity that epitomizes the very best of South African design.

Katie has a beautiful shop you can browse in opposite the biscuit mill in woodstock, or you can supply her with your own pieces of furniture/random items/anything and she can turn them into beautiful new desirable pieces for your home. A selection of handmade by me fabrics are available for this, and I can’t stop dreaming of my fly away birds fabric on the inside of an old suitcase, or even covering one of her famous suitcase chairs! sigh!

Anyways definitley pop in to her shop or check out her website, she has and does everything you can imagine…and more!!

“Limited edition and bespoke pieces by local artists are mixed with quirk and tongue-in-cheek vintage which has been selected to play on our heritage and includes ceramics, recyled pieces, textiles, candles, lighting, art, décor, books, soap, plants, cards and furniture.

Sonia Vosloo is a 40 -something business woman (and also a wife and mother to two energetic sons Stefano, 13 and Luca, 6), having a chosen career in clothing design and brand management for over 20 years, and now, with my newest venture, a curator of South African design, art and crafts.

“ I have been privileged through my other creative work, to be exposed to so many different art forms and have met with some of South Africa’s most creative artists all over the country and with Shoppe, the aim is to bring the best of what South Africa has to offer to a wider audience.””
