may media love

We have had some really great media love for the month of May and we wanted to share it all with you here. First up is this really great shoot and feature in Sarie magazine. I love what they did with my products for the shoot below, and am so very flattered to have been given a full page feature, and to be featured alongside some really talented designers.

Then Ideas magazine did a shoot using bits and pieces of fabric from local designers. See if you can spot our indigo Blue fabric featured here below.

And then one of our friends discovered one of our phone covers in the Mango Airline inflight magazine, Juice, and sent us these pics. Our lovely Midnight Blue Mosaic phone cover made it onto the Ed’s Choice : )

First Thursdays and the Ideas-Idees Trunk Show

Wow again its been quite a week here at Handmade By Me and as much as I wish I could just tell you all the exciting news at once, I am just going to have to calm down and let you know as and when I can. In the meantime here are a few exciting things taking place over the next week…

So first up is First Thursdays this evening! The ever beautiful Chandler House has been undergoing a little move around and will be debuting their new exhibition space – The Voorkamer.

“In Traditional Cape homes, the Voorkamer was a space used to show off the good pieces of an family’s collection and where one would entertain Priests, Government Officials and In-Laws. Our Voorkamer will similarly showcase beautiful and unusual objects that can be enjoyed and added to one’s own collection.”

Their first exhibition in the Voorkamer will be a Collection of Alphabets by the 20th Century British Typographer David Kindersley. I, for one, have a serious crush on type and fonts, and all things related, so I definitley won’t be missing out on this!

The lovely SAM will also be open tonight and they will be featuring some fresh new designer products. I have had a sneek peak at some of the new items to arrive in store lately and they are definitley worth a visit!

And then next weekend it’s the Ideas-Idees Trunk Show at Simondium outside Stellenbosch. The idea behind this is to feature all designers and makers of things that the magazine has featured in the past, so it is really going to be quite a collection. Great news for everyone is that the market is indoors, so no matter what the weather, it’s set to be a beautiful weekend. I am also going to have some Handmade By Me products on special so it really will be well worth the visit…even if you just come and visit me : )

Here are some pics from last year’s event. How beautiful are these spaces? I better start working on mine, I had no idea that this is what is to be expected…(gulp).

To the happiest of new years…

I can’t believe that it’s already January again : ) Its 2014 this time, and I have a very good feeling that this year is going be awesome. There are so many exciting things already on the cards…Cape Town is deservedly the World Design Capital 2014 (which means there will be lots of fun to be had and beautiful things to look at in the mother city), Handmade By Me has some new product and design ideas in the pipeline (plus I am going to start painting again which I cannot wait to do), some of my best friends are finally moving back home to this beautiful city, some of my best friends are getting married, beautiful babies are on their way, and most importantly I am getting married to the love of my life and I can’t wait!!!

There is a lot to be excited for this year!

And with that I wish you all a fantastically happy and healthy year ahead!

To mark the first Handmade By Me blogpost of 2014, I thought I would leave you with this little article I discovered by surprise in the latest issue of Ideas magazine. It’s an article all about blogs, and my little Handmade By Me blog which I started right in the beginning, before I even had products to show you so I filled it with soup recipes, has been featured alongside some great local well known and established blogs. I am honoured!

South African inspirations available in store…

I would like to start off by thanking everyone who came and supported Handmade By Me at the Constantia Gift Fair this last week. We had a disastrously rainy and windy start on Wednesday morning, but by Friday everything was well under way, and it turned out to be a very enjoyable and successful week.

Now I know I have introduced my new South African inspired range to you before (for those of you missed the previous post click here), but I wanted to share the photos from the product shoot that I did. They all sold so well at the Constantia Gift Fair, and make really great gifts for friends and family overseas as they are super easy to post. The cushion covers are available filled or on their own. Chat to me about sending gifts overseas for you, I have designed some beautiful Christmas gift wrap and will be offering a gift wrap and post service from now until Christmas.

Available now from The Shoestring Collective Pop-Up Shop and The Handmade By Me Online Shop, and various other stockists : )

Handmade by Me, Decorex and the CCDI…

As most of you know handmade by me made it to the Cape Town Decorex this year as a part of the CCDI Collective Store. The expo ended yesterday and I was lucky enough to go and have a mooch around last Thursday. Here are some photos of (mostly handmade by me goodies) on display alongside the 40 something designers that were all chosen to be featured. Please excuse the shoddy iphone picture quality!!

While I’m at it, I would really like to introduce you to the Cape Craft & Design Institute (CCDI) and tell you a little more about what they do. And if you are a crafter, or a designer who makes products and lives in the western cape, this is for you!

logo

The Cape Craft & Design Institute (CCDI) was set up in 2001 to promote and grow craft as an economic sector in the Western Cape province of South Africa. A not-for-profit company, the CCDI is a joint initiative of the Provincial Government of the Western Cape and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. The CCDI has also been adopted by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) as a model craft hub, to serve as a template for the establishment of similar craft institutes in other provinces of South Africa.

The CCDI supports craft producers and helps to network all players in the product-to-market chain. This includes craft producers and designer-makers, retailers, marketing agents, exporters and service providers such as designers, product developers, skills trainers, business development practitioners and mentors. Government and other funders form a vital part of this collaboration, to build relationships across sectors.

For more details check out their website www.ccdi.org.za

And lastly….don’t forget its the lovely Woodlands Market on tonight from 6pm!! I have lots of lovely aprons and tea towels if you’re looking for any last-minute mother’s day gifts! Its a perfect day for it, I hope to see some of you there : )
