We have added a few new items to our product range lately, mostly all of which just happen to be monochrome. We wanted to share them with you here!
Firstly we have a new placemat design hurrah! Geometric Monochrome. I know a lot of you out there are scared of a bit of colour so here is something that will work on your table every single time. Try mixing and matching with different monochromatic patterned napkins, or incorporate just a bright splash of colour like a bright burnt orange or even a sunny yellow, to be honest pretty much any colour will go!
We have a new stockist in New York opening up very soon (I know!!!!) and we just sent off our first order of products for them which included this Origami Birds scarf/sarong. I am going to make to order these so get in touch if you would like one too!
We have also changed our Origami Birds napkins. These ones are the same as the other new range napkins, 30 x 30cm in size and nice and thick, and available in sets of 2 in black and blue.
Sooooo just in case you don’t already know, it’s Father’s Day this Sunday, and so I have decided to have a little special here at Handmade By Me. Our Origami Bird chef aprons are always a great gift for Dads, and so we’re knocking the price from R560 to R320 for THIS WEEK ONLY!!
The aprons are available in either black and white, or blue and white and are made from a lovely 100% cotton, made to fit any shape or size. And of course guaranteed to make you cook and clean better than ever before! : )
To take advantage of this one-off offer please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your order, and with my trusty courier service, we can get these delivered directly to your door overnight and just in time for the weekend.
I found this lovely piece of writing (below) somewhere in the realm of facebook, and thought that it was the closest thing I have seen yet, which appropriately describes what supporting local designers and makers and their handmade products is all about. It really rings true to me as a maker of products, and the sentiment is very sweet. Unfortunately I could not find the person to credit directly, so please, if any of you know, will you let me know so that I can say thank you for these lovely words.
And with that I would love to share with you this beautiful shoot that Home en Tuis Magazine did with my lovely stockist The Green Elephant Collective. It came out so beautifully, and it really goes to show that you don’t have to completely redo your home to give it a make over.
I would like to start off by thanking everyone who came and supported Handmade By Me at the Constantia Gift Fair this last week. We had a disastrously rainy and windy start on Wednesday morning, but by Friday everything was well under way, and it turned out to be a very enjoyable and successful week.
Now I know I have introduced my new South African inspired range to you before (for those of you missed the previous post click here), but I wanted to share the photos from the product shoot that I did. They all sold so well at the Constantia Gift Fair, and make really great gifts for friends and family overseas as they are super easy to post. The cushion covers are available filled or on their own. Chat to me about sending gifts overseas for you, I have designed some beautiful Christmas gift wrap and will be offering a gift wrap and post service from now until Christmas.
Yay so the good news is that my Thundafund campaign to move my printing to South Africa was a success : ) I managed to raise over R14 000 and I could not have done it without you my fellow supporters!!! THANK YOU!
For those of you who ordered products through the campaign, I will be in touch shortly to discuss which designs you would like to order for your 100% locally produced Handmade By Me products!
I am also delighted to finally be able to release my new South African inspired top secret design which is exclusive to my Thundafund campaign. I also have another two designs in the same style which you will be able to order going forward. They are all old illustrations of South Africa in the 1800’s printed onto a cotton twill, and I just love the black and white contrast. Available as tea towels, cushion covers and as a set of 8 Napkins.
And my new winter range will finally be available to order as well.
A few months ago I received an email from a family who were looking to adopt a child from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Because adoption is such an expensive process they were looking to raise the appropriate funds by having a big giveaway on their blog, Outnumbered and living to tell about it. With the thought that last year there were 147 million children living without parents and only an estimated 25,000 adoptions in mind, I immediately offered to help by supplying them with a tea towel for their giveaway. Apparently I wasn’t the only one, as they managed to get so many products, that they have been able to have 2 completely separate giveaways.
Today I heard that they have a referral and will be adopting a little 4 year old girl to be their new daughter. I am so delighted to hear this and timing couldn’t be better as the 2nd giveaway (including a handmade by me tea towel) is up for grabs as of today! You can help support their adoption too by entering the giveaway here, a donation of $5 equals one entry and it really is so easy to do! If you can’t help financially maybe you can share the link with your friends and families. The winner will be chosen randomly on May 27th… Winner takes all!
Floor vinyls for everyone! House and Leisure have listed floor vinyls as no 2 in their “top 26 flooring finishes”. This is what they had to say…”Today’s vinyl is slick, highly durable, easily maintained and installed, cost-effective, and can mimic anything from travertine, quartz and stone to real wood, porcelain and slate.” I can design you your own custom floor finish if you’d like, or pick one of my current designs like my Square Style in Pink as featured in the House and Leisure article below. Email me at email@example.com for a quote.
And here’s a closeup of my Square Style in Pink Design…also available in fabric and wallpaper.
So you might remember the origami birds chair that I reupholstered and upcycled for Oxfam Ireland last year. Well it seems that is has inspired quite a few of you to go on and reupholster chairs of your own using the same origami birds fabric. One of my lovely customers bought a metre of origami birds a few months ago to reupholster a chair of her own, and today she sent me some pics of how her little project turned out. I am so delighted that she is letting me share the pics with you…the chair looks AMAZING!!! And hopefully it will inspire more of you to try this simple and easy way to turn old not so pretty looking furniture into new beautiful statement pieces for your home. yay for upcycling : )
Here’s the before/after pic of the chair I originally upcycled for Oxfam Ireland.
And here is one of a set of deck chairs I recently recovered up for a customer using the Origami Birds design in an extra heavyweight cotton…
My new tote bags are have arrived and look how fantastic they have turned out! I will be making them in all designs so feel free to get in touch if there is one you are specifically after…I can’t wait to make a fly away birds tote and a pink flamingo, and I think the proteas and strelitzias will look ever so stylish! I also have matching purses so if you’re looking for a great gift idea, try a tote bag and matching purse, or go wild and mix it up! All totes now available through my Etsy store or through my lovely stockist Hello Pretty : )
