So next week is the big move! And as much as I am absolutely excited to get my little business going in sunny South Africa, there are lots of mixed emotions with leaving Ireland, my home for the last 6 years. Anyways with that in mind, I won’t be posting much over the next 2 weeks while we enjoy our last few days in Dublin, and start getting settled into life in Cape Town. I can’t wait to begin posting again because that means I will have started to get cracking on my next set of ideas and projects, and I won’t be able to wait to show you all. So while we get on and move, I’ll leave you with some pics of my new tea towel range, all ready and waiting to find themselves a new home : )
And don’t forget if you want to keep up to date with any news in the meantime you can go to http://www.facebook.com/handmadebymeblog and “like” handmade by me’s facebook page.
Remember the bespoke design “cats and dogs” I created for my friend’s serah and paul? Well they sent me some pictures of their lovely cushions and napkins in their apartment and I would love to share them with you!
If you want to see the original post I did….including the super cute photos of their cat Greebie and their dog Bluff…and for more information about my design…click here.
Remember my lovely origami birds chair I upcycled as a part of the Make Space for Oxfam Campaign, well here is the article from Stellar Magazine that featured the different designers and what they did for the project. As much as I hate that there is a full body picture of me in here, the chair looks great and I am happy I could help be a part of such a great campaign!
Here’s the article below, and if you would like any more information on the campaign itself click here. Here’s hoping my lovely chair generates some good money for them!

My friend Claire asked me if I would design her a wallpaper pattern for her new foodie blog called “The Plum Farmer’s daughter“. I thought I’d keep the pattern fun and modern because there are so many “same old” fruit prints out there. The beauty of digital printing is that it allows me to play around a lot more with photographs and textures and I wanted to combine the two with my very distinctive digital style. I also wanted to develop the pattern into napkins, tea towels and eventually aprons so the pattern had to be bright and colourful. I only found out AFTER I had created this design that Claire isn’t really into purple!!!! (ha ha I know!!!) So I created a slightly more blueish version for her to use.
Here they are below…soon to be available in napkins and tea towels for all people plum crazy : )
I haven’t had the opportunity yet to let you know about one of Handmade by me’s online stockists The Design Basket. They have a lovely selection of Irish goodies, so if you are looking for something a little different they have everything from Irish jewellery to fashion accessories, homewares to Irish art…and of course items handmade by me : )
“At The Design Basket we love all things Irish but we’re really passionate about Irish gifts with a contemporary edge. Our vision is to bring Irish contemporary design to the world’s fingertips. There are so many incredibly talented designers & craftspeople throughout Ireland. They are exhibiting at local fairs and selling in boutiques but remain a secret to the online marketplace both within and outside Ireland. We aim to recreate online the excitement and passion often found in quirky little boutiques and craft fairs.”
They have also just been named ‘Best in Irish’ this week by the RTE Style File!
Definitely worth checking them out : ) just click on the image below or any of the links above.
From the rainy city of Dublin to the sunnier shores of Cape Town, Handmade by me is moving! And its all happening on the 4th of July! So from then onwards, everything will be designed and made in South Africa. Unfortunately due to the nature of alot of current stockists being “made in ireland” I will sadly have to stop supplying them, but I am delighted to say there will still be a few up and running. I am very sad of course to leave Ireland, it has been my home for 6 lovely years and it will always be where Handmade by me began. But one door closes and another opens and hopefully Handmade by me will find a happy and successful new home in Cape Town. I have alot of plans up my sleeve about developing new products and designs and can’t wait to get started! And I can’t wait to be working on this fulltime! Unfortunately most of these require me actually being In Cape Town so things will be a bit quiet here for the next month or two and then I hope to bombard with you with all things fabulous! So for anyone who hasn’t subscribed to my blog as of yet, you can still do so (type your email address into the “subscribe” block at the top right hand side of my blog) and you will be able to keep up to date with the move itself and new and exciting information and projects. You can also keep up to date via Handmade by me’s facebook page.
Irish supporters and customers I will be giving you all a 10% discount on any purchases of current stock. And for any cushion covers purchased I will throw in a free cushion filler! I can still make to order at normal prices for the next 2 weeks but after that I will have to do that from the other side and then post your item/s to you. I have lots of cushion covers, tea towels and napkins sets so first come first serve. If you want to send me a mail, I can let you know what designs are available and reserve them for you.
And of course no matter where you are in the world, you will always be able to get your hands of any of my products either through new or exisiting online shops and of course my very own Etsy store. My special bespoke services will always be up and running so if you still want to create something special or unique either for yourself or as a gift for someone else please get in touch!
This is such an important and worthy cause I decided to post this again! Especially now Handmade by me has so many more followers than when I last posted this last time. So many of you helped before by signing the petition, thank you! Lets see if we can spread the word even further, its certainly a cause worth pushing!
There’s been quite alot of hype lately about the increasing severity of Rhino poaching, particularly in South Africa. According to acclaimed rhino scientists, if poaching continues at its current rate South Africa’s rhino herd will go into population decline by mid-2012. That is very tragic and it is getting progressively worse very fast.
For every item bought in this design below I will donate 10% to www.stoprhinopoaching.com. The design features both the black and white Rhinos and if you look a little closer you’ll see that the little flower/fireworks are made out of rhino spoor (footprints). Do something small for them (and for yourself) and order your Save Our Rhinos tea towel from my etsy store today!
You can also help make a difference too by signing this petition and by passing it on to help spread the word around the world and put an end to this savage and severe problem. Please click on the various links above to find out more about rhino poaching and see what other ways you can help.
Here is a photo I took last year of these beautiful animals. This is definitely a cause worth supporting! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD. THANK YOU.
